Bird | 07-25-08 I'm still looking for my memory card that has the contest pictures on it....hopefully I'll get a chance to find it this weekend while I'm studying for yet another certification exam. And you thought your life was boring???? On Wednesday I stopped by the skate park to see how things were going....and I snapped a few pics. Maybe today on my way home I'll see how the temporary park is holding up. Is anyone ready for the new park to be done yet? Yup...me too!

Construction crews are as bad as bikers...always wrecking stuff and moving stuff around where it doesn't belong, etc. Oh well...all in the name of progress right?
Ender ender.......I think if I did the math right (and I usually do)....there were seven guys on the jobsite....and three of them working. Those are pretty good numbers! It'll be done in no time! 4 real! Why would I lie to you? Don't forget to drag your mom/dad/bf/gf/husband/wife/sister/brother/aunt/uncle/favorite cousin/friend down to Streets of Fire to buy some cool stuff for back to school. I know it sucks to think about going back...but life could be worse...you could be me and have to go to summer school dude! OK...I'm just going to assume that it'll return to my driveway ASAP'er..and post an update anyway. This will be a "Lifest" update. Just like last year Lifest was a lot of work but a lot of fun. Thanks to everyone who helped out...and there were a BUNCH of you. Biker Dan for helping get the wood from Bike Mike's.....Tom Lahti for precision handrail welding at the last minute....Neft and D-Bag...who stopped by one day and helped a little bit...before climbing on the roof and throwing change at Lahti and I. An extra large "Thank You" to everyone who showed up on Wednesday and helped us get all the ramps out there and set up......I'm sure I'm forgetting some people but.....the list goes: Eric Anderson, Josh Forrest, Drew Gabbert, Mongo, Ryan Payne, D-Bag, Neft. Thanks to all the skaters who came out and skated in the demos and helped us monitor the skatepark. Thanks to any companies that donated stuff for the product toss..and finally an extra special super secret double probation "Thank You" to Mr. Brian Gaylord Lahti for being my partner in crime and spending 40+ hours in the week leading up to Lifest to build all that stuff. Hopefully it will last the two months it's going to take for the contractors to get the new skatepark built. OK...enough of that stuff...let's get to some pictures.

D-Rail even found some free time away from Stein's to skate it up. Here he is trying (in vain) to impress Baker's favorite south south of the border boarder. Oh well...even if T.C. didn't like it...the crowd did. Thanks to D-Rail for his assistance with the commentary via the bullhorn during demos.....way better than me on the mic!
Speaking of helping out on the mic.....Drew Gabbert deserves a pat on the back. He worked it like a champ. Here he is collecting his thoughts after one of the demos....thinking about how he ended up at this point in his life....or he's deciding if he wants another funnel cake....i'm not really sure.
The artist formerly known as LPL.....doing some crazy flip trick...switch i think. The crowd loved his L shirt on Thursday.....not so thrilled with his Tshirt on Friday...but I love the way his hat matches his shoes! He must have learned that from Heart Attack Zack!
Cody Peters wasn't afraid to roll his pant legs up just a smidge. It didn't seem to affect his skating too much either. He was trying to bring back last year's "manpri's" that Eric Anderson was sporting. Little did Cody (or the rest of us) know...but Eric had something all new planned for this year's fashion statement.
I'm no doctor...but I'm pretty sure legs weren't meant to bend like Mongo's did here. Luckily he's a trooper and this bail hardly set him back at all. He was back moments later landing that blunt to kickflip on the quarter......
I told you Eric Anderson had something new in store for this year's Lifest fashion statement. No those aren't biker shorts...just really really really really really really really really tight jeans. Remember when Ravers used to wear those really really really really really really really big jeans? Well...it's kinda like that...on opposite day! The last I saw EA Sports..he was signing and autograph for a young lady......no word on whether he needed assistance in removing those shorts...and no word from Lifest officials yet as to if his lifetime ban will be rescinded...we'll keep you posted tho!
Don Matthew Milhouse Miller the Third......lofting a fat kickflip transfer from the quarter pipe to the wedge. Milly should get a degree of difficulty kicker because while he completed this trick...the rollerblade filmer was taking swipes at him with his jousting stick. Didn't bother Milly at all tho....he's a consummate professional.

Speaking of people who can skate....Johnny Payne can kinda skate. Here he is attempting a 360 transfer i think. Johnny skates so fast that Race Zone officials were wondering if he was available Tuesday nights to take on some of the Valley's finest dirt track racers. His agent is still negotiating the terms of that deal tho.
I think D-Rail said at the demo "The skateboarding bloodline runs deep in the Payne family." Or something like that......here is little brother Ryan ollie-ing to fakie over the hip. As much as we love calling him Hannah Montana....i heard his real nick name is "Lil Payne" in honor of his favorite artist "Lil Wayne"...could one of his 8,343 myspace friends please confirm that? Dang....Lil Payne is everywhere....here he's treflipping into the heart of some fine upstanding young lady. Ryan is one of the few skaters on the team that can text message while demoing....he's good dude!
Matty B made the trip from Green Bay on Saturday and showed the crowd "How they do" in Green Bay...or Ashwaubenon....or Crivitz or something. Anyway..here he is displaying skillz few graphic artists besides himself possess.
Brian Gaylord Lahti took his foot off his board while hopping over the hip. Brian was heard shouting "This one is for the troops!" before this trick.....he's one patriotic S.O.B. isn't he?
Daniel Tomter ripped it up....i think he grew 2 feet since last year....not that he didn't have feet last year....maybe i should have said "he grew 24 inches".....but why do you people have to be so critical all the time? To quote Brian Spaghetti Zeddies...."Can i live yo?"

We wanted to hire a clown for Ryan's birthday party...but that was out of the budget...so i colored my 'fro and spanked him myself. There you have it......Lifest 2008. Read the sign. Respect the sign. Act like ya know. (I have to disclose the fact that I photoshopped this picture....if you stop by the park and look at the real sign you'll notice that some biker added themselves to this sign. I felt bad for them so i "erased" it.)
This is what the park looks like now. It will look worse soon...but the less "BS" the construction crews have to deal with the faster the park will get finished. As for the new temporary skatepark at Rainbow Park.....call and ask the city about when it will be ready. Please don't call Streets of Fire with your inquiries....all we can tell you is that Baker donated the ramps to the city for the skaters to use. We realize that the obstacles aren't perfect, that the city might not have assembled everything or laid it out perfectly... we are more than happy to work with them and try to make the temporary park as much fun as possible while we wait for the real skatepark to be finished but........ Realize that the city doesn't have to provide a temporary skatepark, Streets didn't have to donate the ramps........show some appreciation maybe to the people like Anthony Schneider that handled their biz and got the skatepark project moving. Watch for some contest pictures tomorrow and some Lifest pictures on Thursday...before D-rail carjacks my woody wagon.......and it isn't even mine!!!!!! 06-12-08 Make plans for "GO SKATEBOARDING DAY!!!!!"

4-16-08 Streets of Fire Skateboard Supply will be closed Wednesday April 16th-Friday April 18th for filming of Public Enemies. If you need skateboard stuff...call the shop. We'll be there but we're "locked down"....as a matter of fact Baker just called me to say there is someone with a machine gun peaking around the corner...... "LIGHTS! CAMERA! ACTION!" Check back for pictures...if they let me take any. I'm not in the union ya know.....
4-10-08 Lucky's Men's Clothing...i mean Streets is open and getting gnarly!!!!!! Even though Main Street is closed to traffic......it is still open and there is plenty of good parking downtown....just not right out front! So don't be lazy..walk a few steps and come in and see what's new and hot! Besides....walking is good for you....not as good as skating...but good none the less. Yesterday was a fun day at the shop....Ipaths were hot..and some guy even came in looking for a "good suit." Baker had to burst his bubble and tell him that he really wasn't Lucky....and sent him to another fine men's clothing store in town....this time....a real one I think...not one on the set of a Hollywood movie.
TV crews were at Streets to get the scoop! Baker was the Minister of Misinformation!
Then Baker turned the tables...aka "flipped the script" and interviewed the TV guy! He was asking him if he liked Belgian clog dancing......Baker is so weird!
Wednesday was Ipath day....these fine fellas bought some....I actually had a funny picture of them in a zen like pose...holding shoes and a bamboo shoot....but i blew it...i think my 18-70mm lens is messed up for good.....Matt Mildred Millhouse hit it with his board at Cream City last year....and ever since then....it's been kinda sketchy......waaaaaaaa! (Either that or i suck at photography.......and i'm fragile...so don't insult me.)
Baker pretty much only hangs out with Hollywood type people....and yet they constantly ridicule him and his small town mentality. Just kidding...they don't ridicule him about that...they ridicule him over his choice of footwear. Walking down Main Street..how can you tell if someone is local or an out of town movie person? Look at their shoes...all the movie people are wearing those funky boot like things......with a few exceptions of course.

Drew bought a new board on Friday to celebrate the lovely spring weather. When I asked him what the graphics were supposed to be...he said..."I dunno...looks kinda like a lobster or crab or something...." To which I replied...."Looks like something Eric Anderson might be into..."( talking about his multitude of sea life projects dating back to the giant squids and anchor montages from last summer's Lifest skatepark). Then the talk quickly digressed to Eric Anderson's nether regions..and i think it best if that's all i have to say about that...........for right now.
The hardest working member of Stage Hands local 470....Nick! Things are getting crazy down here....you guys gotta come down and check it out!

Corey Gardner.......we tried making him into an exhibit for the art walk......we were going to have him stand in the window in this emotional pose.......with the crazy box of shoe strings all over him....and call this piece "Emo Corey and the Rainbow wig of justice"...but it turns out Corey had to work...so he wasn't available......so we gave up on the art walk...kinda.
Like i said...we kinda gave up on the art walk.....but with the inside of our windows freshly painted...and with new "old"wall paper up....Baker and Biker Dan decided to give it a go....but without the shoe laces..... we call this piece "clash of the titans"......it was well received by the three drunk ladies that walked by and laughed......but it was short lived.....Baker and Dan could only hold those poses for like....45 seconds tops!
Well...the night of the art walk wasn't a total loss. Dan's display of artisticness....impressed this young passer by..who said it was her birthday and as a present she wanted Dan and Baker to stop that foolishness. They were only too happy to grant her this birthday wish. No word yet on if the restraining order she placed on Dan kicked in yet.......I think it takes a few days for those to be processed. This is what it's like in downtown Oshkosh lately......people walking around with their cameras in front of their faces.....it makes me miss the good ole days before "lcd framing" of photographs......but again I digress. This random person is none other than Scott from the "House of Weirdos" comic book shop......party on Scott!

In one of the first blatant displays of wealth since Johnny Depp has agreed to buy the skateshop......you will now be able to see in the tops of the display cases! That's right! Baker bought new glass.......come on in and check it out! You won't believe your eyes.......
New Nike product...hats and tees....fresh to death! New Nike shoes should be here today maybe.......hurry on down before Johnny Depp raises all the prices and fires Lahti because of Lahti's "edwards scissorhands" phobia.... 3-28-08 Streets of Fire is still open!
Even though the 400 block of North Main looks like a construction site....Streets is still open! New stuff is still coming in all the time so don't let a few stagehands driving scissor lifts scare you away! You might have to park around the corner...or down the block a bit...but believe me.....with all the fun stuff that's going on...it's totally worth it dude... no matter what Baker said on the NBC26 news the other night!
They took our sign down.......in preparation for the Johnny Depp movie....but just look for the "black hole" at 415 N. Main......that'll be Streets of Fire.
To show his appreciation for the minor inconveniences from filming his movie here....Johnny Depp stopped in to buy his son Jack a skateboard. He was super nice and super cool! We might be renting out a skatepark with him when he comes back in two weeks...check with Baker for the "dish" on that.
I was so happy that he bought a board that I tried kissing him. You can see Johnny is "less than thrilled"......oh well.....I was swept up in all that Hollywood excitement..... I mean....he's Capt. Jack Sparrow people! In other super important news....... Baker and Anthony "Mr. Skatepark Mover and Shaker" Schneider met with the city this week to go over the final plans for the skatepark. The City is going to start the bidding process and they are hoping to start construction near the end of May which would mean it would be done by early July. Dang yo! That's exciting...... We still need some money to get us "over the hump".....but it's super duper close! I can almost smell the portland cement curing in the spring breeze...... Talk to Baker and find out how you can help! It's a new skatepark!!!! A NEW SKATEPARK!!!!!!!!!!!!! Can you wrap your head around how cool that is going be??????? I didn't think so..... 3-22-08 HOLY SATURDAY BATMAN!!!!!!! So yesterday I stopped by the shop to take some pics of the fresh new Ipaths....when Baker and I realized that it was "Good Friday".....seeing as we couldn't find a Catholic or Methodist priest to stop by Streets of Fire and perform a proper "Good Friday" church service...we did the next best thing! We ate peeps! We broke bread with Mormons...we discussed politics.....we solved 1/3 of the world's problems...and caused a bunch of new ones. Oh yeah....let me post the ipath pictures before I forget......

Speaking of munchies......as I was saying earlier...we celebrated Good Friday...by throwing a peeps party!
We decided our all yellow party wasn't ethnically diverse enough...so we livened things up a bit...but as soon as the blue peeps met the yellow ones.....they were wandering away from the party...and 9 months..i mean minutes later.....there were little green pipes popping around the shop..... you gotta keep your eyes on the blue peeps...especially ones with messed up eyes...they are frisky!!!!
So the sheriff of skateland....Mr. James P. Baker had to step in and lay down the law. In honor of Shawn Obrien he strives to only consume peeps that match his outfit.....i, for one, can say that i appreciate his effort.
The party continued later....and we colored some Easter eggs......you guys shoulda been there man! Good times...good times....
