Ok, What kind of boad do you currently have?
E-Ruby Brad Staba Deck w/ mustache, Royal Blue Royals, Organika Wheels
and Ninja Bearings
with black screws.
How is that car runnin'?
E-Terrible as usual...a laundry list of problems for the '89 Buick Skyhawk
including missing headlight, drivers side window, missing turn signals,
dash lights, starter, leaks oil, anti-freeze and overheats if you drive
over a mile.
Eric ok we get it, it doesn't run very well but
it did come in handy at the ST Raphael's Demo this summer .And really,
who cares about dash lights when you and KTE are making your own
"paradise by the dashboard lights".
It seems like your life has taken a few twists
and turns in the past year for the better or worse...how are you doing
in general and what have you been up to?
E-Life is going pretty great, started school last September at UW-O.
Got my first pad with Doc Luv and Josh (Horney) last June. Finally graduated
from Chickenland KFC to Handling Packages at Fed X. Very busy but still
find time to skate with roomates at Park Plaza in the Winter or the
skatepark in the Summer.
During the year between HS and College you took
a few trips, Please tell us about those and did you have any opportunities
to skateboard while on them?
E-I took two trips last summer. The first one was to South Carolina
under unfortunate circumstances. We did find time to skate and try to
forget the emotional stress for a moment or two. We drove straight down
but did stop at three a.m. for junk food and to play games of skate.
On the way back we skated the Louisville Park and skated from Midnite
to 4 a.m. Fortunately enough there were no bums slinking about. We also
skated Wilson in Chicago.
The second trip was to California. We skated in St. Louis, Oklahoma
City, Tulsa, Flagstaff, Vegas, Taos NM, Phoenix and Denver. The most
memorable spots were Denver where there were too many kids and too dusty,
the emptied pool we snuck into in Tulsa, and skating the Vegas strip.
Most historic skate-spot in Oshkosh? Why?
E-That's a tough one...I would have to say white ledges. Where we first
learned everything.
Favorite current street spot in Oshkosh?
E-The Roxy Gap. Super fun but you can't session it with friends because
there has to be a lookout for cars.
Milkshake or Malted?
E-Mister Cinders Chocolate Malts.
Flavor?
E-Chocolate.
What role does music play in your life and how
does it relate to skating?
E-Never really thought about it. It plays a big part in my day, whenever
I am not listening to music I have a song stuck in my head.
What song do you currently have stuck in your
head?
E-"Letter to Memphis" by the Pixies.
What skateboard video do you look to for inspiration?
E-The Foundation Video "That's Life." They look like they
are having a blast.
Future plans?
E-Finish College become a registered nurse, Marry Katie Kulinski, travel
a lot and still skate for sure. Progress with my art.
Influential people including skateboarders?
E-That's a tough one. I don't have a whole lot of role models anymore.
You get a role model and get disappointed by them. Especially in skateboarding.
(unfortunately)
Drew Gabbert the constant fire under my ass to go gnarlier. Drew-(in
cameo appearance) Erik that sounds gay.
E-That's fine, I am comfortable with that. Jeremy Borntraeger and John
Brant are a few other inspirations. Luckily for all of us Jeremy has
a knee injury and we can catch up!
Do you remember the days of skating in below
zero weather downtown and huddling in SOF for warmth?
E-Yes like they were yesterday! I still skate in below zero weather
under any overhang I can find usually getting kicked out right away.
Learn any new tricks lately?
E-I have my nollie bsf's lookin' pretty good and switch big spins in
my kitchen.
I also nollie nose slid the rail at Cap'n Ron's in Racine. What a fun
night that was.
Yeah erik really fun for me when I injured my
spine and hyperextended my leg.
I lost my father several years ago and I know
you have gone thru the same thing recently,
how has it affected your life?
E-It has really changed my life around. In an art aspect I feel more
compelled to work on my art and keep in touch with my artistic nature.
I have been working on alot more projects recently. Losing him has made
me look at things alot differently.
Aything else?
E-People need to worry about there own lives and where they are headed
rather than worry about what everybody else is doing with theirs.
